In this work, the results of studies performed on a piece of chain are presented. The artefact was composed by two segments of four and three links respectively, joined by an U shaped shackle, locked by a transversal pin. Considering the observed marks, links originally had studs in its middle part; nevertheless not all of them are preserved. This piece, found out of context, was given to Dr Mariano Ramos by the Director of Culture of San Pedro in order to be studied in April 2012. The proposed objective was to obtain precisions about the origin of the chain, and its probable relation to the events of the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado. For that purpose, documentary sources were analysed and materials characterization methods such as dimensional study, metallography and radiography were used.
