Abstract

Pachacamac was one of the main and most respected deities of ancient Peru; the power of him was expressed
in the summons to pilgrims, who attended his sacred space to manage their pleas. the sanctuary
de Pachacamac is located in front of the coast of the Pacific Ocean, in the department of Lima-Peru; in
the set of its monumental structures include, among others, the Old Temple, the Painted Temple and the Temple of the Sun. The Spanish conquest did not mean the total abandonment of the site of Pachacamac, as it continued to be a sanctuary and pilgrimage center although there was a change that is documented in the registry
material recovered in our excavations in different buildings.
This article focuses on the investigations of the Museo Pachacamac team and addresses the state of the art of early colony archeology at the site and an analysis of recent findings and a debate on its long-standing occupation and sacredness.
