In this case, we present an analysis of a ceramic pipe corresponding to the archaeological collection of the historic city of Ibatín, the first foundation of San Miguel de Tucumán. The importance of this analysis focuses on the fact that the morphology and the stylistic designs present in the pipe would seem to resemble similar pieces found in other parts of the continent which would be related to the traditions of African groups. Although we recognize the complexity and risk of making direct correlations between a single archaeological piece and a specific cultural group, its presence is still significant since it allows us to open the field of discussion to the possibility of finding the Afro and Afro-descendant population present also in the archaeological record of historical sites in northern Argentina.
